HPS offers assessments for a multitude of reasons, including those questioning a diagnosis. If you have been referred for an assessment, have any questions, or you feel an assessment would be helpful, please contact us.  Our team is here to support you every step of the way.

Adult ADHD Assessment

At Hunter Psychological Services psychology clinic, we offer comprehensive assessments for Adult ADHD to help you understand your symptoms and how they impact your life. Please note that this assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis of ADHD.

Our thorough evaluation process includes several key components:

  1. In-Depth Interview: Our psychologists will conduct a detailed interview to explore your symptoms, both current and from childhood. This helps us understand the full scope of your experiences and how they affect your daily life.

  2. Comorbidity and Differential Diagnosis: We will assess for any other mental health conditions that may be present, ensuring an accurate diagnosis and a better understanding of your overall mental health.

  3. Assessment of General Intellectual Ability and Executive Functioning: Our evaluation includes tests that measure your cognitive abilities and executive functioning skills, which are often impacted by ADHD. This provides information on your strengths and weaknesses to inform recommendations.

  4. Pre-Assessment Questionnaires: Prior to your appointment, you will complete a series of questionnaires. These give us valuable information that will inform the assessment process.

What to Expect

  • Duration: Please allow 3-4 hours for the full assessment. This comprehensive time frame ensures we gather all necessary information for an accurate diagnosis.

  • Feedback Session: Approximately 4 weeks after your assessment, you will have a 50-minute feedback session. During this session, your psychologist will provide you with a detailed written report and a verbal explanation of the results. We will discuss what the results mean for you and provide practical recommendations for yourself and your workplace/education provider if necessary.

Ongoing Support

If you need further support after your assessment, our psychologists are available for individual sessions. These can focus on managing ADHD symptoms and implementing the strategies discussed during your feedback session. We are committed to providing continuous support to help you thrive.

Cognitive Assessments

At HPS we offer comprehensive cognitive assessments which are designed to measure your overall cognitive abilities, including problem-solving skills, learning capacity, and adaptive functioning. Unlike academic tests that focus on specific subjects like reading, writing, or mathematics, cognitive assessments provide a broader understanding of how you think, learn, and manage everyday tasks compared to others of a similar age.

The purpose of a cognitive assessment may be to assess for intellectual disability or giftedness. It may also be used for the purpose of informing support needs, funding for those supports, or clinical intervention.

What to Expect

  1. In-Depth Interview: Our psychologists will conduct a detailed interview to provide further information for the assessment. This may include information regarding your development, education and employment history, functioning in various areas of your life, and mental health history. In some instances, an informant such as a family member or support worker may also be interviewed for additional information.

  2. Assessment Session: Participate in a series of tasks and activities designed to evaluate different aspects of cognitive functioning.

  3. Pre-Assessment Questionnaires: Prior to your appointment, you and a possible informant may be asked to complete a series of questionnaires. These give us valuable information that will inform the assessment process.

  4. Feedback Session: Approximately 4 weeks after your assessment, you will have a 50-minute feedback session. During this session, your psychologist will provide you with a detailed written report and a verbal explanation of the results. We will discuss what the results mean for you and provide practical recommendations and recommend support needs if necessary.

  5. Duration: Please allow 3-4 hours for the full assessment. This comprehensive time frame ensures we gather all necessary information for an accurate diagnosis.

Assessment for Mental Health Suitability to Transition (HRT or Surgery)

Viki has previously worked at Perth Children's Hospital and has had the privilege of receiving training and supervision in conducting assessments for suitability to undergo transgender medical treatment including HRT and surgical intervention. This experience has shown Viki that transgender clients struggle with multiple obstacles in feeling comfortable within their own bodies, and she, therefore, aims to decrease those obstacles by providing assessments that are cost-effective and provide a welcoming experience.
